TOGETHER WE CAN BRING THE PRAIRIE BACK
RESTORE THE LAND. SUPPORT THE WORK.
Restoring prairie takes time, expertise, and long-term care. Through The Plains Restoration Project, individuals and families can help bring native prairie back to the landscape by sponsoring restoration acres.
Your membership helps fund the work required to restore and steward native prairie on farmland across the Plains.
In partnership with farmers who make land available for restoration, we guide the process of establishing native grasses and wildflowers and caring for the prairie as it grows.
Together, we are rebuilding a landscape that supports healthy ecosystems and thriving wildlife.
HOW IT WORKS
When you become a member, you sponsor acres that are restored and stewarded as native prairie.
Your investment helps support:
Prairie restoration planning and land preparation
Native seed mixes of grasses and wildflowers
Planting and establishment of prairie ecosystems
Long-term stewardship of restored acres
Partnerships with farmers who provide land for restoration
Each sponsored acre becomes part of a growing network of prairie habitat across the Plains
PRAIRIE RESTORATION MATTERS BECAUSE…
Native prairie does far more than grow grass—it helps rebuild healthy land and thriving ecosystems.
Deep-rooted native grasses stabilize soil and reduce erosion from wind and water, while prairie plants filter rain as it moves through the ground, improving water quality and reducing runoff into nearby streams and rivers.
Native grasses and wildflowers also provide essential food and habitat for pollinators, birds, and wildlife that depend on prairie landscapes.
At the same time, prairie plants capture carbon and store it in their deep root systems and healthy soil.
Together, these natural systems strengthen soil health, support biodiversity, and help restore the balance of the land. Each acre of prairie that returns plays a meaningful role in rebuilding these ecosystems.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
Caring for the land is something people across communities value.
Many people want to support conservation but don’t have access to land where restoration can happen. At the same time, farmers across the Plains are willing to partner by offering land where prairie can return.
The Plains Restoration Project brings those two groups together.
Through membership support and farmer partnerships, we are able to restore prairie acres that might otherwise never return to native habitat.
It’s a practical way for people who care about the land to take part in restoring it.
